Recyclist(s) of the Month: Heidi and John Ryder

Each month we will feature a Recyclist who comes into the studio and makes a positive change in his or her own life. A person who inspires us and reminds us of our intentions for this studio. Our bikes are stationary, but we are going places.

Meet the Ryders! Heidi and John have been with us since November 2011. If you’re an early bird, you’ve undoubtedly seen these two on the bikes first thing in the morning. Read on to find out how this busy couple motivates each other to stay active and healthy, both on and off the bike.

How you started spinning with us…

I purchased a Rue La La deal for a 2 week unlimited ride at the studio, and went for the first time in November of 2011. I had been struggling with knee pain from years of regular running and races, and was looking for another form of exercise. It was a Sunday night Christina ride, and I was hooked immediately. John joined me shortly thereafter in spite of his initial hesitation about his lack of rhythm!  We had both done spin classes previously in other studios, and couldn’t believe the energy, fun and level of challenge Recycle offered us; it is addicting!

Who pushes who to get out of bed and into the studio?..

Once committed to a class, we are both equally motivated to get out of bed in the morning!

What positive impact it has on your relationship to share the common interest in being active…

Spinning has become another common athletic interest we share along with skiing and road cycling. They are all great ways to spend quality time together in an effort to stay active, healthy and burn off stress!

What motivates you to workout even with your busy schedule(s)?..

What motivates both of us is the incredible sense of accomplishment that comes with an all out effort on a ride; nothing can replace the satisfaction of walking down Tremont Street with a Starbucks coffee immediately after class when most people are still in bed!

Then top 5 reasons you love spinning at RS…

1)  Sense of accomplishment

2)   Physical toning and calorie burn

3)   Stress reduction

4)   Great music

5)   Even greater instructors!
